Jovita Fuentes, the first female National Awardee in Music in the Philippines was also the first Filipina to be acclaimed one of the best opera singers in the world in the early 1900s. She founded the Artists’ Guild of the Philippines and produced the series of “Tour of the Operaland.” She brought honor and glory to her country at a time when the Philippines was just an insignificant speck in the map for most people in Europe.
