Japan’s leading desert agriculturist who applied his knowledge to China and organized thousands of Japanese volunteers to plant trees, alongside Chinese volunteers, as part of his Project Green Hope.
SEIEI TOYAMA received the 2003 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Peace and International Understanding. The board of trustees recognizes his twenty-year crusade to green the deserts of China in a spirit of solidarity and peace.
