Synopsis

A short story of two Filipino scientists, Dr. Lourdes Cruz and Dr. Baldomero Olivera who best known for their work in conotoxins, the venom of Conus family of sea snails. Dr. Cruz and Dr. Olivera with the help of physiologists found that snail toxins work on specific parts of the nerves and muscles and can therefore be used to control nerve activity. Based on their discoveries, the American drug firm Elan Pharmaceuticals developed the pain killer Prialt, a nonaddictive substitute for morphine.
